"Being able to find the big stories, put them into context and shift our perception of what they mean is what any art obsessive is really looking for from the best writers in the field."

Well said, though I do think that Ligaya's list is doing just that. The only difference between her and those questioning LVD's exclusion is how you define a "big story." I'm by no means a Ligaya or NYT apologist, but I can appreciate that, by making the outer borough steam tables and end-of-the-line food trucks the big story, she's offering an alternative perspective in an industry that has long been convinced by establishment media that restaurant lists are anything other than subjective.

Love the last point. No matter how many hours spent researching, eating, or commuting (as oddly emphasized by Ligaya), lists just feel Iazy. But commentary on why LVD isn’t a top 100 restaurant or even why Kabawa is the #1 best restaurant in our city would be interesting.

I wrote something for Caper about Kabawa as the number one, less the why and more about it restoring relevance to Momofuku, which no longer seemed like it was in the business of running interesting restaurants. If you want to read send me your email, I’ll forward it to you!

I actually don’t love LVD, despite going a bunch of times (am I not eating the right things??), but I DO love bridges. I also love the LVD service

Interesting! What didn’t you like about it?

I just wasn’t impressed with anything? (Besides the service and I like the actual vibe of the restaurant—those things are important). The meat is traditional-euro meat (not particularly good), the sauces and appetizers were forgettable. I’ve tried! Multiple times.
